Open Letter to the People of Jamaica

by Sue M. Cobb

Ambassador of the United States of America to Jamaica

June 15, 2004

On behalf of the Government of the United States and of the U.S. Embassy in Kingston, I would like to extend our sincere appreciation to the people of Jamaica for their exceptional expression of sympathy on the death of Ronald Wilson Reagan, the 40th President of the United States.  We thank the Prime Minister The Most Honourable P.J. Patterson, the Leader of the Opposition The Most Honourable Eddie Seaga, Ministers of the Government of Jamaica, and Members of Parliament, who signed the Reagan Condolence Book. We especially appreciate the kind words of those who spoke so eloquently in Parliament in recognition of President Reagan's life and contributions.

We thank the many other elected officials, Heads of Missions, and Members of the Diplomatic and Consular Corps who so thoughtfully added remembrances and sympathies.

Jamaicans have once again demonstrated their warmth and friendship to the people of the United States. We want you to know that your thoughts and prayers are welcomed and appreciated.

 Sincerely,

Sue Cobb

United States Ambassador to Jamaica
