United States Embassy Kingston Warns of Fraudulent Websites
KINGSTON- September 7, 2004: The Consular Section of the United States Embassy Kingston, Jamaica advises the public that only Internet sites including the ".gov" indicator are official government Web sites. The official Web site of the US Embassy Kingston is http://usembassy.state.gov/kingston/. Persons wishing to make an appointment with the US Consular Section must use this site to schedule an interview time.
Visa applicants are advised to be cautious in all dealings with companies that claim to offer any assistance in obtaining U.S. visas. Please note the following:
Immigration Related Websites. Many non-governmental Web sites (e.g., using the suffixes ".com," ".org" or ".net") provide legitimate and useful immigration and visa related information and services. Regardless of the content, the Department of State does not endorse, recommend, or sponsor any information or material shown on other Web sites.
Other Impostor or Fraudulent Websites and Email. Some Web sites may try to mislead the public into thinking they are official; they may falsely require that you to pay for forms or information about immigration procedures that are free of charge on the Department of State Visa Services or Embassy Consular Section Web sites. Additionally, you may receive e-mails that require you to pay for visa services you will not receive. Be wary of sending any personal information that might be used for identity theft.
