Q: When will routine services to American Citizens resume?
A: The American Citizen Services Section will be open for emergency services on Friday, September 17. We hope to resume normal operations on Monday, September 20, subject to demand for emergency services to American citizens in the Cayman Islands.
Q: Why are U.S. visa services suspended?
A: Due to the aftermath of Hurricane Ivan, the U.S. Embassy has had to reduce its services to the public. The current priority of the consular services section is in providing emergency aid and assistance to Americans in Jamaica and in the Cayman Islands. The U.S. Embassy is eager to re-open its visa services to the public, and will do so as soon as it is able to get its staff and services fully operational.
Q: If I've already gone through the interview process and my visa is ready, when can I pick up my passport?
A: Passports with visas will be available for pick-up on Friday, September 17, 2004, between 8:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. Regular pick-up hours will resume on Monday, September 20, 1:30-3:00 p.m.
Q: What if I am scheduled to travel to the U.S. and have not yet applied for a visa?
A: If you are scheduled to travel to the U.S. and you do not have a U.S. visa, you are advised to postpone your flight until you can obtain a visa. Please check the U.S. Embassy website at http://usembassy.state.gov/kingston for next available appointments.
Q: What happens if my appointment was scheduled but had been cancelled due to the Embassy's closure? Will I automatically be rescheduled?
A: Appointments cancelled due to the Embassy's closure will not be automatically rescheduled. Please visit the US Embassy website to reschedule your appointment.
Q: I have to travel in two weeks - will I be able to make my travel date?
A: The U.S. Embassy is eager to re-open its visa services to the public, and anticipates that the consular section will be fully operational soon.
Q: If my appointment for an Immigrant Visa interview was cancelled, what should I do?
A: The Immigrant Visa Section will contact you in the coming days to reschedule your appointment. We anticipate being able to accommodate all cancelled interviews within the next two weeks.
