Assistance in the event that you are arrested
If you are arrested, local authorities are required to notify the U.S. Embassy pursuant to the Vienna Convention. You may ask that local police contact the Embassy on your behalf. Officers will work to protect your interests and ensure that you are treated in a manner consistent with local laws and customs. They can provide a list of local attorneys, visit you, and contact your family and friends on your behalf.
