About James T. Heg
Mr. Heg arrived in Kingston in August 2006 and is currently serving as Deputy Chief of Mission at the U.S. Embassy, and acts as Chargé d’Affaires in the absence of the Ambassador. His most recent previous posts were Mexico City from August 2004 to May 2006 as Minister Counselor for Economic Affairs, and U.S. Embassy in London, United Kingdom as the Economic Counselor from August 2000 to June 2004. Prior to that, he served for four years in the State Department in Washington, DC, the last two as Deputy Director for Economic Affairs, Office of European Union and Regional Affairs in the Bureau for European Affairs. From August 1996 to July 1998, he was Deputy Director, Office of Brazilian and Southern Cone Affairs, Bureau of Western Hemisphere Affairs.
During his career, Mr. Heg has generally specialized in economic affairs but has a variety of experience. Overseas, he has served as Deputy Political Counselor in Ankara, Turkey; Finance and Investment Advisor at the U.S. Mission to the OECD in Paris; Economic/Commercial Officer in Managua, Nicaragua; and Economic Officer/Vice Consul in Caracas, Venezuela. In the Department of State he has also held positions as staff assistant to the Assistant Secretary for Economic and Business Affairs, and Financial Economist in the Office of Development Finance, Bureau of Economic and Business Affairs.
Mr. Heg graduated from Rice University, Houston Texas, with a BA degree in Economics and Political Science. He received a MA in Economics from the University of Washington, Seattle Washington. He speaks Spanish, French and Turkish.
Mr. Heg is married and is a resident of Chelan, Washington
