Exchange Programs
Cultural & Educational Exchanges
The OPA administers a variety of educational exchange programs, including the Fulbright program. Although opportunities for scholarships are nearly nonexistent, very large numbers of students come to the U.S. each year to take advantage of our highly advanced and frequently very specialized educational programs. For more information on our exchange programs, please visit the website for the Department of State's Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs.
The OPA does have an Educational Advisor who provides valuable information to individuals who have their own or other institutional means to study in the U.S., and need to know how to go about finding an appropriate university, how to apply, and how to prepare for student life in America. This office also makes available the registration forms for the required examinations necessary for entry into college and graduate programs. The Educational Advisor is able to advise students and their parents from 12:00 noon until 3:30 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
In all of these areas, information is the essence. In keeping with the electronic information revolution, our old paper-copy libraries have been replaced by an Information Resource Centers (IRC). Although it still does have some books, increasingly it relies on on-line or CD-ROM data bases. The IRC will be open to individual researchers undertaking bona fide research projects related to the policies and society of the United States on Tuesdays & Thursdays 12:30:pm to 3:30 pm. Before being admitted to the IRC, researchers must demonstrate to the IRC assistant on duty that the project is a legitimate research project and that the needed materials are likely to be found in the IRC.
