Inspector General of City of New Orleans discuss Ethics, Governance Issues in Jamaica

Robert Cerasoli, head of the Office of the Inspector General of the City New Orleans, will be in Jamaica from April 14-16 to discuss ethics, corruption and governance issues.  His three-day visit is sponsored by the U.S. Department of State and facilitated by the U.S. Embassy’s Public Affairs Section.

Mr. Cerasoli, who has been Inspector General since September 2007, is responsible for establishing a full-time program of investigation, inspection and performance review to provide increased accountability and oversight of the city government entities and is empowered to prevent and detect fraud, abuse and illegal acts. 

During his visit, Mr. Cerasoli will be the key presenter at a public sector workshop being held under the theme, “Ethics in Governance: Restoring the Public Trust” at the U.S. Embassy on April 15. Representatives of the Ministry of Finance, Jamaica Constabulary Force, Auditor General Department, Office of the Prime Minister, among other government agencies, are expected to participate.

He is also slated to address students, faculty, members of the Manchester Chamber of Commerce, local police and other groups at a forum to be held at the Northern Caribbean University campus in Mandeville on April 14.

Mr. Cerasoli has served as Chairman of the Ethics Committee of the Association of Inspectors General since 2004 and is a founding member of the Ethics Section of the American Society for Public Administration.  Prior to joining the Office of the Inspector General in the City New Orleans, he served as Inspector General of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts from 1991 to 2001.

He currently teaches a course in Ethics and the Inspector General function at the Association of Inspectors General in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.  A graduate of The American University in Washington, DC, he holds a Masters Degree in Public Administration from Harvard University.
