2008/2009 Fulbright Graduate Student Program

Under the Fulbright Graduate Student Program, Fulbright grants are awarded to qualified Jamaican graduates with a first-class honors, a upper second class honors, or a lower second-class honors Bachelor's degree in the humanities or social sciences.  Applications will be accepted by the Office of Public Affairs  (OPA) of the American Embassy in Kingston NO LATER THAN THURSDAY, MAY 31, 2007.

INTERVIEWS of pre-screened candidates will take place in OPA on WEDNESDAY, JULY 11,  2007.

Applicants will be required to take the next sitting of the paper-based Graduate Record Examination (GRE) on February 10, 2007 (registration deadline/receipt date at the Educational Testing Service (ETS) in Princeton, New Jersey: December 29, 2006). To schedule an appointment for the paper-based Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT), one may do so on-line at www.mba.com; by calling 1-800-GMAT-NOW; or by completing the International Test Scheduling Form in the GMAT bulletin if you will be paying with a U.S. credit card.

Applicants must submit their GRE or GMAT scores along with their applications. GRE and GMAT bulletins are available from the Embassy’s Office of Public Affairs, 142 Old Hope Road, Kingston 6.  No application will be considered without these scores.  The lowest acceptable score in each of the verbal and quantitative sections of the test is 600 out of a total of 800.  U.S. universities require a good GRE or GMAT score from applicants, along with application forms, transcripts and other supporting documents.

With two years of full funding from Fulbright, the successful candidate may pursue either a Master's degree or a Ph.D. degree in the humanities or social sciences at a U.S. university.
This is a very competitive scholarship program and consideration will be given only to Jamaican citizens who are graduates of reputable institutions.  Recipients should plan to return to Jamaica and must spend at least two years in Jamaica before they can immigrate to the U.S.  While not guaranteed, we hope Jamaica will receive four Fulbright student grants for the 2008/2009 academic year.

Persons who are ineligible: * those with "green cards" (alien registration cards); * those who are already pursuing studies at a U.S. university; * those who are resident in the U.S.

The Office of Public Affairs will accept applications from 1997-2007 first class honors, upper second class honors, or lower second class honors graduate.  No one with Pass degrees or an overall C average or below may apply.
