Immigrant Visas

General Overview

An Immigrant Visa (IV) is required of anyone who wishes to enter the United States to reside there permanently, whether or not that person plans to seek employment in the U.S.  For additional information, please visit travel.state.gov.

Information and Inquiries

The preferred method of communicating with the Immigrant Visa Unit is by e-mail.  Please send e-mail inquiries to kingstonivinfo@state.gov. 

Information can be provided in person by appointment only.  To make an appointment for information window services, please e-mail kingstonivinfo@state.gov.

In most instances, you will receive a response within five business days.  Please wait at least five business days before sending another e-mail.  The U.S. Embassy does not respond to visa inquiries by phone.

- Where to Get Help -

Almost all inquiries can be answered by information already available on the following websites and helplines.

National Visa Center (NVC): (603)334-0700 or nvcinquiry@state.gov.  If your priority date is current and NVC says your case has been shipped to Kingston, you should receive an appointment letter in the mail within the next few months.

US Citizenship and Immigration Service (USCIS): (800)375-5283 for automated information and live assistance with filing a petition.

Department of State Visa Office: For a selection of pre-recorded information or to speak with a visa specialist during business hours, call (202)663-1225 or fax (202)663-3899.

Kentucky Consular Center: For information about Diversity Visa applications, (606)526-7500.
