U.S. Embassy Cancels Walk-in Visa Reissuance on Monday, May 12, 2008; Program to resume in future

The Consular Section of the U.S. Embassy announces that the Walk-in Visa Reissuance service will not/not be open on Monday, May 12, pending further study of security measures to be adopted.  The embassy was obliged to suspend the service last Monday when a disorderly crowd of applicants were unable to form a line for access into the embassy compound.   In order to prevent injuries to applicants and passers-by, embassy officials are investigating alternative methods of crowd control.  Once a decision is made, the embassy will inform the public concerning the resumption of the program.

The walk-in program was designed to expedite the reissuance of visitors’ visas.  It was scheduled to take place between 11:30 and 1:30 on Mondays, allowing up to 450 applicants to renew their visas without appointments.
