U.S. Embassy hosts free concert – “Blues on the Green”
Feel the power of Blues on the Green on Friday, February 29 during the United States Embassy’s free concert featuring Chicago Blues diva Nora Jean Bruso at Hope Gardens in Kingston.
The concert comes courtesy of the U.S. Embassy’s Public Affairs Section and distinguished sponsors in celebration of African American History Month.
Nora Jean Bruso was recently named one of the ten great women of Chicago Blues. Like so many blues greats, she hails from the Mississippi Delta, and was born and raised in the heart of the blues-rich region. While touring Europe, Canada, and the United States, Nora refined her performing skills and developed an international fan base. In 2002, she appeared at the Chicago Blues Festival with the Jimmy Dawkins Band, and the Chicago Sun Times called her performance "show-stopping." Ms. Bruso wrote fourteen songs for her CD "Going Back to Mississippi," released in September 2004.
The free concert will begin at 6:30 p.m., featuring the Maurice Gordon Group, headed by the talented guitarist Maurice Gordon, Pam Hall, Michael Harris, the Fab 5 Aggregation and TO-ISIS.
“Blues on the Green” culminates a series of activities organized by the United States Embassy’s Public Affairs Section in support of African American History Month. Other events which have taken place include schools visits and “The Blues Meets Jazz,” a film series held in collaboration with Red Bones Blues Café on Thursdays through February 28.
