Press Release 2005
Applicants for U.S. Visas and Those Registering Births of U.S. Citizen Children Must Present Registration Forms on Security Paper
August 4, 2005
Beginning September 1, 2005, the consular section of the United States Embassy will only accept birth registration forms, marriage registers, and death registration forms issued by the Government of Jamaica’s Registrar General’s Department on security paper.
This requirement will affect immigrant visa applicants, who are required in many cases to present these documents in order to demonstrate their relationship with the U.S. petitioner. Non-immigrant visa applicants also will need to present these registration forms on security paper if they are required during the interview. It also will impact those wishing to register the birth of a U.S. citizen child in Jamaica, who must present the birth registration form on security paper.
Applicants who possess birth registration forms, marriage registers, or death registration forms which are not on security paper should apply to any office of the Registrar General’s Department or on the Registrar General’s Department Web site for a replacement. Applicants may find further information about these documents at http://www.rgd.gov.jm.
