How to Schedule a Follow-Up Appointment

If you have already been interviewed by a consular officer and were requested to return for a follow-up (or “blue sheet”) appointment, you must call the Visa Information Service (VIS) to schedule your Blue Sheet Letter follow-up appointment.  You will need to purchase a PIN to speak with a live service agent.

How to schedule an appointment

Applicants may contact the call center Monday through Friday, 0800 hours to 1800 hours Jamaican time, except Jamaican or U.S. holidays, by dialing one of the following numbers:

Local Jamaica number -- 1-876-621-0252
Jamaica 800 number -- 1-800-572-7780
Local U.S. number* -- 1-202-621-2128
U.S. 800 number -- 1-888-243-4840
*Residents of the Cayman Islands should use the local U.S. number to call the Visa Information Service.

How to pay for this service

Using a credit card over the phone to access the service

  • Follow the voice instructions you will hear when you access the Call Center.
  • Enter credit card number when prompted.
  • Receive 8 minutes of call time for $13 USD which begins when an agent answers.  You may write down the PIN number in case you do not use the full 8 minutes and you need to call back.

Buying a PIN at a NCB branch

  • Purchase a Visa Information Service PIN for $13 USD.
  • The PIN can be used on the next business day after purchase.
  • Receive 8 minutes of call time which begins when an agent answers.  You may write down the PIN number in case you do not use the full 8 minutes and you need to call back.

The Embassy no longer accepts scheduling requests by fax or e-mail.

How to schedule an emergency follow-up appointment

If you have an urgent need to obtain an earlier Immigrant Visa Blue Sheet appointment, you must first make an appointment using the Visa Information Service call center as outlined above. If the appointment scheduled does not meet your needs, consult the emergency procedures below.

Emergency Appointment Procedures

  1. Make an appointment through the call center following the procedures listed above.  All applicants requesting emergency appointments must have a scheduled appointment through the call center.  Please do not cancel your appointment unless you have received a response from the Consular Section's Visa Unit.
  2. Forward your appointment e-mail confirmation page along with your request to:  kingstonvisas@state.gov. This e-mail is for emergency appointment requests only.
The e-mail must include the following:
  • Applicant's name
  • Applicant's date of birth
  • Applicant’s Immigrant Visa case number
  • Items checked off on the blue sheet
  • Reason for requesting an emergency appointment
  • List of preferred dates for an earlier appointment

Emergency appointments may only be granted for serious emergencies. Emergencies include:

  • Illness or death of an immediate family member (immediate family members are the applicant’s mother, father, brother, sister, husband, wife, son, and/or daughter).
  • Emergency medical treatment which includes any persons needing to travel for support (such as a parent caring for an ill child).
  • The applicant is about to turn 21 and does not qualify for a CSPA or Patriot Act Benefit

Lack of planning to obtain the proper visa in advance does not constitute an emergency. The risk of missing a booked flight or other travel arrangements does not constitute an emergency case. A desire to travel with your relative does not constitute an emergency.

All applications for an emergency appointment will be reviewed within 5 working days from the day they are received. The applicant will be informed whether they have been given an emergency appointment or not by e-mail.  If you are granted an emergency appointment under the above guidelines, you will be given additional information on what to bring to your interview and the date and time of your emergency appointment.

The kingstonvisas@state.gov e-mail is for emergency appointment requests only. All other e-mails sent to this address will not be answered.

Do not buy your airline ticket before you obtain your immigrant visa. Please remember that the granting of an emergency appointment does not guarantee that your visa will be issued. The case must be complete before an immigrant visa can be issued. Additional time is need for visa processing and delivery.
