U.S. Embassy Kingston Student Visa Application Guidelines

KINGSTON- June 16, 2005
         
As the school bells of next semester will soon be ringing, the U.S. Embassy reminds all students who have been admitted to a U.S. educational institution to apply for the F-1 or M-1 non-immigrant student visa.  In order to avoid delays, the U.S. Embassy encourages all prospective students to make their applications well in advance of their arrival date at school. 
 
Fees for the student visa application are $100 U.S. dollars and can be paid at any Paymaster branch.  To make an appointment for the interview, go to the U.S. Embassy’s visa appointment system online at http://210.177.22.41/kingston/.  Appointments also can be made through Paymaster.   When the prospective student arrives for the interview, he/she should bring the following documentation:

  • Paymaster “fee paid” receipts “1” and “2”; 
  • A passport with a validity date at least six months beyond the applicant's intended period of stay in the U.S.;
  • Form I-20A-B, Certificate of Eligibility for Nonimmigrant (F-1) Student Status-For Academic and Language Students or Form I-20M-N, Certificate of Eligibility for Nonimmigrant (M-1) Student Status for Vocational Students, which will be provided by the U.S. institution;
  • SEVIS I-901 Fee Paid Receipt:  A $100 U.S. dollar fee must be paid to the Department of Homeland security. The fee may either be paid online at https://www.fmjfee.com/index.jhtml; or via a local Western Union;
  • NIV Application Form DS-156 completely filled out and signed.  Go to http://evisaforms.state.gov to access the form online;
  • NIV Supplemental Application Form DS-157 completely filled out and signed.  Go to http://travel.state.gov/visa/frvi/forms/forms_1342.html to access the form online;
  • Contact History and Supplement Work Form (DS-158) completely filled out and signed.  Go to http://travel.state.gov/visa/frvi/forms/forms_1342.html to access the form online;
  • One passport-sized photograph;
  • Evidence of funds available to cover the first year of study, and access to sufficient funds to cover subsequent years.

 

Student visa applicants also may bring recent transcripts, standardized test scores and other evidence of academic achievement to the interview.
