U.S. Elections expert to visit Jamaica May 15 and 16

Political consultant and entrepreneur Ann Stone will visit Jamaica on May 15 and 16 to discuss and explain the U.S. election process and the current Presidential election campaign. Ms. Stone’s visit is funded by the U.S. State Department, through the U.S. Embassy’s Public Affairs Section.

While in Jamaica, Ms. Stone will participate in a special forum being held by the U.S. Embassy in Kingston, in association with Generation 2000 (G2K), the young professional arm of the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP). This will take place on Thursday, May 15 at 6:30 p.m. at the Life of Jamaica (LOJ) Auditorium in New Kingston.  The public is welcome to attend.

Ms. Stone will also conduct a seminar in association with the Jamaica Women’s Political Caucus on women’s participation in politics, and will meet with members of the Jamaica Debates Commission. In addition, she will talk to students at Denbigh High School in Clarendon about the importance of public service and participation in a democracy. 

Ann Stone has been active in U.S. politics since the age of twelve and has worked in over 450 campaigns in various roles, from campaign manager to fund-raiser and precinct manager.  She was recognized by Campaigns & Elections Magazine as one of the women who has changed U.S. politics for the better.  She has been engaged in political and business consulting, training and analyses in countries in Europe, Africa and the Far East.  She speaks on a wide variety of topics, including U.S. politics, time management, campaign financing and women in politics.  She has also conducted training in campaign management, public speaking and fund-raising.

Ms. Stone has been instrumental in founding a number of groups dealing with women’s issues, including the National Women’s History Museum.  She is Founding Chair Emeritus of Empowered Women International whose pilot project, the Women Immigrant Network, has won local and national awards. She has appeared on numerous television shows, including “Larry King Live,” “Lehrer News Hour” and “Today Show.”  She co-hosts a local public affairs TV show, “Alexandria Forum” and regularly speaks at the American University, George Washington University, the Washington Center Forum and the Harvard University Forum. 

Ann Stone opened her first company in 1982, and went on to found three other companies, including The Stone Group, a public affairs and public relations firm.  She is a graduate of George Washington University with a double major in History and Communications, and has conducted graduate work at the Wharton School of Business.  She has been named in the Who’s Who of American Women every year since 1990.
